Icing On Top: South Mumbai's Latest Confectionary

Right away, I am going to tell you that I fell in love with Icing on Top when I got their goodie bag even before I opened it. What a smart bag! Flat wide bottom so the bag stands, boxes neatly stacked, lids that don't come off, cloth so it's world friendly, made from a tough fabric so it doesn't behave like tissue. Right away, I told myself 'what smart people!' Those of you who know me, know how much I value perfection in design and usability in most material things. Icing on Top is situated in Kemps Corner and is Mumbai's latest new dessert shop.

They sent me a bunch of things. Of those were some bite sized cookies. The ones on the right, lemon cookies are the best thing I have ever eaten as cookies. The cookies are more like melting moments and they just sort of evaporate in your mouth, the icing leaves a lovely lemon zest flavour on your palette. just with they were slightly bigger and the icing was yellow :)

The next thing I loved were the cinnamon cookies. Again, with a texture like sand that melts into nothing but the delightful flavour of cinnamon sugar on your tongue, these got over too soon. I should be thankful I do not live in Kemps Corner, I would be eating these for dinner everyday.

Some of you are already chuckling at this chocolate mud pie. Neither the man nor I are fans of chocolate. I love cooking and baking with chocolate but cannot eat more than a teensy bite without getting nauseated. So no, we did not like this after the first bite. But we are pretty sure that chocolate lovers would faint over this one.

Cake pops! Who doesn't love these beauties? I don't even know why people even bother with lollipops when there are cake pops in the world. Here, you see a double chocolate, an Oreo and a red velvet.

Now, I know Caramel Wings says that red velvets are the new black forests, everybody seems to be eating and making them BUT - and I agree with her - especially so because just like the black forest, nobody seems to get the red velvet right. it's just a weak cocoa chocolate cake with tons of artificial colouring in it and nothing remotely velvety about it. But this red velvet cake pop. Velvety, soft, melt in your mouth. Seriously beautiful.

This was my favourite part.

A red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Listen, I can kill for a well made red velvet okay? Icing on Top got this one right too - it travelled from town to Kandivali on a hot May afternoon so I do not blame them for the sliding layers. It was finger licking good. I even licked the box. I really regretted seeing it get over. I did not want to leave a small piece for the man but unfortunately, he's a huge red velvet fan too, albeit well-made red velvet, which this one most definitely was.

And finally, three chocolate shots. Belgian Chocolate, Hazelnut and Blueberry. We LOVED the blueberry but given how we are not chocolate fans, not even sure we should be commenting on the chocolate shot. It was okay. Hazelnut was nice too but nothing overwhelming.

In short, somebody please fine me a house on rent somewhere close to Icing On Top or better still, send me their lemon, cinnamon cookies, red velvet cake pop, red velvet cake and the blueberry shot. Every week. At least. And while you are at it, do follow them to keep track of the new awesomeness they keep releasing coz yeah, they do have specials.
